Motorhome towbars are a costly niche market. The volume of steel used, volume of sales vs approval costs, time taken to install, and size of the market all contribute to making motorhome towbars more costly than that of an average car.
Generally there are three types of towbar:
The most common type approved motorhome towbar is a swan neck design. We supply them all.
From 2012 onwards, motorhomes that have towbars fitted must be fitted with a European Type Approved towbar. This means that the towbar has gone through a rigorous test procedure to ensure that it is fit for the job.
Towbars that have gone through the type approval process will be issued with a type approval number and a type approval label must be positioned on the towbar
Motorhomers that have had pre-2012 motorhomes will be more familiar with a full-width rear protection towbar. This type of towbar is unlikely to pass the European Type Approval tests because of the rearward weight.
